I’m really hoping someone can give me some advice because I’m genuinely worried about my 2017 Dodge Durango R/T. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve noticed this low-pitched whining noise coming from the rear of the car, and it seems to get louder the faster I go, especially between 70 and 100 km/h. It’s not a grinding noise, more like a constant hum or whine that changes pitch slightly when I accelerate or decelerate, which makes me think it’s coming from the differential rather than the wheel bearings. I’ve already checked the differential fluid level and it seems fine, and there’s no visible leak underneath the car, so I’m not sure what’s causing it. I’ve read that these ZF diffs can develop bearing wear over time, especially if the fluid hasn’t been changed regularly, and the car has about 90,000 km on it now so it’s definitely getting up there in mileage. I don’t want to ignore it and end up with a complete diff failure, but I also don’t want to pay dealership prices for what could be a relatively simple repair. A friend of mine who drives a Challenger mentioned Dodge repair Al Barsha and said there are a few good independent shops in that area that actually know these Mopar vehicles well. Has anyone here experienced rear diff noise on their Durango or similar Dodge truck and can tell me what the issue was and roughly what it cost to fix? I’m trying to decide whether to get it looked at now or just keep driving and hope it doesn’t get worse.
