I’ve owned my 2016 Wrangler JK for about two years and honestly I just assumed the vague steering was normal because everyone talks about solid front axles wandering. But lately it’s gotten way worse, to the point where I’m constantly making small corrections just to stay in my lane on the E11. There’s also a noticeable dead spot on center and a clunk when I turn the wheel back and forth while parked. I had a quick look underneath and noticed some fluid residue around the steering gearbox area. A coworker who used to have an XJ said I shouldn’t ignore it because a failed steering box at highway speeds is no joke. I’ve been searching for Steering System Repair Mussafah because I figure that’s the kind of place that deals with lifted and modified Jeeps all the time. Has anyone here upgraded to a heavier duty steering box or had theirs rebuilt? Also wondering if the steering damper could be masking a bigger issue. I’m not running huge tires or anything, just a mild 2 inch lift with 33s. Any advice on what to check first or where to go around Abu Dhabi would be much appreciated. Really want to feel safe driving this thing again.
