I’m taking my family from Dubai down to Salalah for the Eid break and I’m trying to get the car fully ready. It’s a 2018 Honda Accord, nothing fancy, but the front pads are probably at about 30% life according to my last oil change. Part of me thinks I should just get them replaced now for peace of mind because driving through the mountains around Salalah with a fully loaded car sounds like a good way to find out if your brakes are marginal. But another part of me wonders if I’m throwing away money on pads that could easily last another few months of city driving. Has anyone here done that long drive on half-worn pads? Or am I being stupid and should just replace them before leaving? I’d rather not waste a day at a garage right before a holiday but I’d also rather not end up in a scary situation on a steep descent. What would you guys do?
